Hall of Famer wrestler cast as Greek god in fantasy Disney+ series

WWE Hall of Famer Edge has been cast as Greek god of war Ares in the Disney+ fantasy series Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

The show, based on the novel series of the same title by Rick Riordan, describes Ares as “handsome in a wicked way and arrogant, despite not always being the sharpest tool in the shed. He loves conflict and acts as an agent of chaos wherever he goes.”

Percy Jackson & the Olympians — the story of Greek gods set in the 21st century — marks the 48-year-old Canadian wrestler’s return to acting.

He had appeared in the series Haven (2010), Vikings (2013) and in the movies Interrogation (2016), and Money Plane (2020).

His comeback ends a nine-year retirement from wrestling due to a neck injury.

Born Adam Copeland in Ontario, Edge was inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame 2012. Some of his accolades include being a seven-time world heavyweight champion, four-time WWE champion and a two-time winner of the Royal Rumble.

Also joining the cast of Percy Jackson are Suzanne Cryer as Echidna, Mother of Monsters, who is said to be “dangerous, intimidating, and strangely maternal. She enjoys her task of challenging heroes and will test Percy’s faith in the gods.”

Jessica Parker Kennedy is Medusa, a gorgon “wronged by the gods and bitter. Medusa lives in isolation until travelers stumble on her emporium. She is welcoming to some and a threat to others.”

Percy Jackson & the Olympians stars Walker Scobell in the title role, Aryan Simhadri as Grover, and Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase.

It premieres in 2024.
