Swift Capiz bypass roads construction seen

The Department of Public Works and Highways recently said that it is seeking to complete the construction of two bypass roads in the province of Capiz as soon as possible to address the increased traffic flow in Western Visayas.

The agency said that the projects include the construction of the Pontevedra and the Roxas City Bypass Roads with a total budget of P295.5 million.

DPWH reported that the remaining 554-meter portion of the 2.3-kilometer Pontevedra Bypass Road is halfway through its completion, with a P50 million budget in 2022.

The project seeks to provide an easy way to connect the towns of President Roxas and Panay.

To recall, the construction of the Pontevedra Bypass Road started with a P95 million budget covering the construction of the 1.755-kilometer portion of the road between 2020 and 2021.

The agency also reported their target goal of finishing the P150.5 million worth of construction for the 1.7-kilometer two-lane Roxas City bypass road before the end of the year.

The road will serve as an alternate road for motorists, providing a direct link to Roxas City Airport while also easing traffic within the city.

Just last June, DPWH opened the Maayon Bypass Road, also in Capiz, which lessened the traffic volume along the towns of Maayon, Cuartero, Bailan and Pontevedra.
