UST, MMHRDC to hold Hy-Flex health research symposium

The University of Santo Tomas will host a two-day symposium on health research on 24 to 25 November from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the 21st floor of the B1. Pier Giorgio Frassati Building.

The event, titled Metro Manila Health Research and Development Consortium International Symposium, carries the theme “Post-Covid-19 Pandemic Transformations and Innovations: Rethinking Practices and Strategies for a Resilient and Healthy Juan/Juana.”

The first session will have discussions on the pulmonary, cardiac, and neurological complications of Long Covid while the second session will highlight engineering innovations during the pandemic. It will be followed by a talk on the national pandemic response playbook and international collaboration in the Covid-19 pandemic.

The fourth session will focus on interprofessional education while the fifth session centers on challenges in education and health during the pandemic, especially the medical and paramedical education.

Day two will open with a discussion on ethical issues and changes in research during the Covid pandemic. It will precede the talk on trends in postgraduate training in health sciences, particularly on PhD in health sciences, MS in Implementation Science and in clinical trials.

MMHRDC has 44 member institutions composed of 20 academic institutions, nine medical centers and government and non-government agencies (private, NGOs, professional society). Over the years, it has provided basic research training to young and budding health researchers; facilitated provision of research funding; showcased research including lectures and research posters; capacitated institutions to attain PHREB accreditation; and hosted scientific conventions and fora that allowed Filipino researchers and students to learn and interact with other researchers and scientist in the health research community.
