Go supports indigents in Angeles

Sen. “Bong” Go assured poor and vulnerable Filipinos that he will continue to urge the government to provide necessary aid and support for disadvantaged sectors to recover from the pandemic as he sent assistance to indigents in Angeles City, Pampanga.

The senator’s team distributed meals and masks to a total of 1,667 indigent residents on August 16 and 17. The activities were carried out in batches at the Infinity Amphitheater in the city, in compliance with the health protocols.

In his message, Go emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation across the government to address the various needs and concerns of more Filipinos in crisis.

During the activity, select individuals also received new pairs of shoes or bicycles for their daily commute. Others received electronic gadgets to help their children with their school activities.

In addition, representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development handed out financial assistance as part of the continuing efforts of the government to assist low-income communities on the frontlines of the pandemic.

As Chair of the Senate Committee on Health, Go reminded the public to continue following the health protocols to further curb the spread of COVID-19 and prevent hospitals from being overburdened again amid the pandemic. He offered to assist those seeking medical treatment and advised them to visit the nearest Malasakit Center where they may obtain aid for their hospital expenses.

To improve access to healthcare services, Go had authored and sponsored the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019. The law provides for the establishment of one-stop shops which provide convenient access to the medical assistance programs of the DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
