House to finish budget deliberations by 1 October

The House of Representatives will work to finish the deliberations on the proposed 2023 national budget before 1 October, said House Speaker Martin Romualdez. Deliberations on the committee level will begin on 26 August, he added.

The 19th Congress is set to go on recess on November 6.

Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman submitted to Romualdez today the proposed P5.268-trillion national expenditure program for 2023. The House Speaker gave the assurance that every cent of the budget will be spent on government programs meant to address economic recovery and the lingering effects of the pandemic.

The Department of Education retains the highest budget allocation at P852.8 billion, followed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (P718.5 billion), Department of Health (P296.3 billion), Department of Social Welfare and Development (P197 billion) and Department of Agriculture (P184.1 billion).
