MMDA starts Commonwealth Ave. free rides

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority yesterday beefed up its Libreng Sakay (free ride) program by fielding seven buses and two military trucks along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.

MMDA acting chairperson Carlo Dimayuga III said the program will serve about 500 to 600 passengers per day for those traveling from Doña Carmen to Welcome Rotonda.

Dimayuga said they are thinking of offering the free rides until December this year to help students and workers who are having difficulties catching rides to their destinations.

The free rides are available Monday to Friday, from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte thanked the MMDA for “easing the burden of the commuting public.”

Meanwhile, Dimayuga revealed that the MMDA has penalized the private contractor of the MRT-7 project after its girder launch caused a traffic gridlock near the Commonwealth Market.
